This project transformed a dated 1970s detached house in Bishop Waltham into a modern, light-filled family home. A contemporary gable rear extension replaced a poorly insulated conservatory, while the entire ground floor was reconfigured to improve flow and functionality. A new oak-framed covered porch adds warmth, character and a welcoming sense of arrival.
Designed to enhance modern family living, the open-plan extension accommodates a bright and spacious kitchen and living area. Vaulted ceilings, large feature glazing, tilt-and-turn windows, a central fireplace and rooflights combine to create an airy, light-filled interior. The extension and new layout enhance connections to the garden, offering framed garden views and a seamless transition between indoor / outdoor spaces.
In addition to the main living space, the redesign includes a utility room, a compact home office and a covered entrance porch – all seamlessly integrated into the design. Vaulted ceilings at the front further enhance the sense of space and cohesion throughout.
A carefully selected material palette of red brick, render and interlocking concrete roof tiles complements the contemporary form of the gable rear extension.
