Nestled in a picturesque woodland setting in Berkshire, this dramatic curved rear extension connects a re-configured open-plan living space to its beautiful natural surroundings. Developed in close collaboration with the clients, the project links the main house and existing annexe through a bold and contemporary intervention that transformed the home into a light-filled, flowing environment.
The sweeping curved form was developed in direct response to the unusual gap between the two existing buildings, creating a powerful architectural statement – offering panoramic views and woodland views. A curved glazed façade, large sliding doors and expansive flat roof lights flood the interior with natural light, enhancing the sense of openness and connection to outdoors.
Internally, key features include a feature fire, a stand-alone breakfast bar, and generous glazing frames the woodland setting. Externally a smooth rendered finish establishes a modern, cohesive aesthetic that complements the existing building. The result is a refined and spacious extension with a dramatic focal point and a bold and flowing space for modern family living. It is striking spacious and beautifully integrated with its woodland environment.
