Set within in a picturesque village near Winchester, this property is an 18th-century Grade II listed dwelling with later 20th-century additions. Our sensitive transformation enhances its character while bringing the property in line with contemporary living.
The scheme includes a rear extension to create a more functional and spacious living area. The existing garage will be converted into a self-contained studio space, complete with kitchenette and shower room. Additional upgrades encompass façade improvements, new external storage and changes to the landscape and parking. Addressing damp issues was proposed through the use of traditional lime plaster and mortar for repointing, lowering external ground levels and improving lead flashings around the chimney – all chosen for their compatibility with the building’s historic fabric.
Material selection was carefully considered to complement the existing structure. White-painted brick, a primary material of the cottage reinforces continuity, while timber cladding on the new store complements the cottage’s vernacular charm. The result is a seamless blend of heritage and contemporary touches that feel both authentic and refined.
Worked closely with the clients to optimise the property in line with their lifestyle needs while sensitively integrating new features with the heritage of the cottage. Our involvement spanned from initial concept through to planning approval, navigating the complexities of working with a listed building and successfully discharging numerous planning conditions. Through a meticulous and considered approach, we’ve ensured not only a successful outcome for the client but also the long-term preservation of this historic home. The completed works have elevated both the functionality and the value of Rosebank Cottage.
